Careers lab Thursday May 27

Hello class!

Hopefully we are keeping cool in the lab today.

PLEASE NOTE - THERE WILL BE NO USE OF THE COMPUTERS FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE WORK ASSIGNED TO YOU TODAY. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING YOUR CHAIRS TO TRANSPORT YOURSELF AROUND THE CLASSROOM.

Here are your instructions today.

WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY

You may start on either side of the paper. It would be good to start some place other than your neighbour, as computers can slow down if they are all uploading the same things.

To complete side 1 of your handout, visit www.usw.ca/program/content/986.php

To complete side 2 of your handout

for A go to http://www.worksafely.com/videos/we-miss-david.aspx

for B go to http://www.workerscompinsider.com/archives/000780.html
-- click on the four videos listed half way down the page (Sous Chef, Construction, Retail, Forklift)

--- you may also watch other videos here: http://blog.safe-workplace.com/2007/11/wsib-workplace-safety-videos.html
and here: http://blog.safe-workplace.com/2007/11/wsib-safety-videos-part-two.html

for C go to www.ywap.ca, and follow the directions listed on the bottom of p.2 of your handout.

When you have completed the chart, you may work on your resumé, or any other overdue work.

Enjoy!

FSF 1P Friday May 21 - Speaking Presentation

Bonjour FSF 1P

REMEMBER THAT LAB TIME IS A PRIVILEGE AND INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR IN THE LAB WILL RESULT IN THAT PRIVILEGE BEING TAKEN AWAY.

You will be presenting your speaking task today. Follow the directions carefully so that you can record your presentation properly.

1. To open the recording program, click on Start.
2. Go to Programs --> Music --> Audacity
3. Open Audacity.
4. Be sure your microphone and earphones are plugged into the computer correctly.

At the top of Audacity, you will see
a green triangle, which means PLAY
a red circle, which means RECORD
a yellow square, which means STOP
two blue lines, which mean PAUSE.

Please practice recording your own voice first to be sure the recording device works properly.
YOU SHOULD SEE BLUE SQUIGGLY LINES AS YOU SPEAK INTO THE MIC.
Be sure your recording is loud enough.

ALWAYS OPEN A NEW FILE when re recording. (Go to File and click on New)

You will have as much time as you need to practice. Remember to say your prices correctly in French.

Once you have recorded your work, you must SAVE YOUR WORK.
Here is how you can do that.

Click on File --> Save Project As, then click ok to enter
Enter YOUR NAME as the filename.
At the top where it says SAVE IN: , scroll down until you see Desktop
Click on the HandIn (I:) folder.
Click on the Bell folder.
Click on the A FSF 1P SPEAKING TASK folder.
Then in bottom right hand corner press SAVE.

DOUBLE CHECK with Mme Bell to make sure your work has been properly saved. Please raise your hands if you have any questions.

Merci! Please use the rest of your class time wisely.

Have a good weekend!

BE SURE THAT THESE ARE PREPARED AND READY FOR TOMORROW.
This is to be completed as part of your marked interview that will present on Friday.
You will have time to practice with a partner on Thursday. Have all answers prepared in advance.
REMEMBER: Your interview is your chance to prove that you are the very best candidate. Be sure to describe your weaknesses, and how you are determined to improve them. Perhaps you are too much of a good thing ("my weakness is that I'm a perfectionist"). Don't be afraid to elaborate and to give examples.
