le 28 avril

Bonjour!

What an awesome day!   ☺

FSF 1P - Today, students executed their directions scavenger hunt that they created themselves! Great job! I think we all had a good time. Then, to begin our new unit, we did a KWL chart to identify what we already know, what we want to know and what we have learned ( for later ) about food in French and in French culture.  Students received a new vocab list. La nourriture, here we come! Please remember tomorrow is a lab day and you'll need your écouteurs.

FSF 1D - Students had a special day in the auditorium pour regarder a fun performance. We then played a fun geography game in English and in French as we prepare for our next unit. Tomorrow you will be critiquing an establishment in our city for a written mark. To prepare, you can choose your place tonight and think about what you can say about it (that will describe why it earns the amount of stars you give it).  Please be sure to do yesterday's homework on the blog if you haven't yet.

FEF 1D- Notre réunion de Petit Nicolas!!!! Fantastique!! Tomorrow we do our video logs (vlogs). If you haven't met requirements yet, please be sure to be prepared tomorrow!

FSF 1P - Students completed some listening activities today that demonstrated that they can follow more precise directions around the school. They completed their written directions and there will be an activity using their projects tomorrow!!!!

FSF 1D - Students rehearsed their directions, and earned a speaking mark for their work today. Students who have yet to speak with Mme will be completing their task on Friday.
Please remember that Friday is a lab day, and you will complete your critique of a building in our city using your notes.
Today students also were introduced with a package that explains how we describe actions in the past. They were made aware that they have homework and here it is (use your notes if you need to!);

Please watch this video that explains the passé composé - 2 min

Practice avoir here - Rags to Riches

Type in the past participle here - 2 min - check your answers!

Click here for a listening activity - listen and type what you hear - perfect for good pronunciation

Match up these activities with how they are described in the past- 2 mins

Your speaking mark is out of  /30. Bravo!!!

le 26 avril

FSF 1P - We had the idea to create a scavenger hunt using the school, like we did with our city-in-the-classroom idea. So we did! Students are working on a written project where they will direct other students to another spot in the school. We did two listening activities for practice and differentiated our driving environments with that of France.  Mme was also la banque today and students cashed in for bonbons. Good work everyone.

FSF 1D - Today we did a listening activity for marks. Students also cashed in their billets for bonbons! Students listened and identified new vocab words based on what they had been learning about. They identified cultural differences, and demonstrated good listening skills for new information.  Tomorrow is our speaking task, and we are starting a new concept.

FSF 1P - Today we transformed our room into a city. Students were blindfolded and had to read a clue to themselves, direct their classmate to the appropriate place using correct direction vocabulary and then peer assess to see if they went to the right building. Great pronunciation!! We had a good time. We also compared some buildings, read a map of our community and directed ourselves to amenities we like to visit and are useful.

FSF 1D - Today students talked about making a place a superlative using "meilleur" and "meilleur que". We did a sondage (survey) where we spoke to others and took note of what amenity (of the students choix) was the favourite of their classmates. Students are speaking to gather information and to compare amenities in our community to prepare for our written critique on Friday that will be for marks. Students played four corners today to talk about why they thought an amenity was the best ; Gino's est la meilleure pizzeria parce que c'est proche, for example.
We directed each other on maps using our direction vocabulary.  All of this is in order to so a one-on-one speaking task with Mme for marks THIS WEDNESDAY.

FEF 1D - Today, we our vocabulary grew when trying to advise, share opinions, compare opinions and demonstrate we have recognized the opinions of others. We create our own personalized lists of expressions used to introduce ideas, and reinforce the ideas of others. We created more situations upon which our next speaking task will be based (Petit Nicolas panel ; Where are they now? ) happening on THURSDAY. Students are encouraged to practice these situations and be sure to incorporate new expressions in their dialogues. The situations are posted on elearning.
Petit Nicolas reading comprehension test tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! A demain!!!

le 10 avril

Bonjour!

Here is what we did in a nutshell and reminders for tomorrow;

FSF 1P - we created a list of ways we can ask for help en français. We used a template to create a short dialogue and direct someone on a map to a specific place. We followed directions and followed them correctly using what we know about direction words to end up at the correct building.
PLEASE BRING YOUR EARPHONES FOR YOUR LISTENING ACTIVITY FOR MARKS TOMORROW.

FSF 1D - We matched up English expressions with French expressions to encourage dialogue en français that problem solves and directs another student to a location. Students used a template to direct people. Some terms we listened to during an activity and used were;

FSF 1P - Students did a little test trial exercice by moving around the school to apply knowledge of simple directions. We used some direction vocab for giving and following and summarizing (in written French) our directions today. Tomorrow we will continue following our directions with an exercice orale et un exercice d'écoute!

FSF 1D - Today students completed a chart of characters who, by reading their profiles, are in need of being directed somewhere in our city. Tomorrow we will learn and practice how to decide and tell them where to go! Students also performed a speaking task for marks and received immediate feedback. Most students were shown their marks today.

We also talked about what sort of polite expressions we would use in conversation when we wanted to give advice, or tell someone how we really felt. We talked about a common error to avoid and learned the rules, and applications of mieux, meilleur, le mieux et le meilleur and it's forms. Here are two activities to help. We completed our journals today. Great speaking, class. Let's keep up the bon travail!!!

This is an excellent note with a fun activity at the bottom. Please read through it for clarification if you feel it is necessary

Testez-vous! Can you choose the correct word - mieux ou meilleur?

Voici 5 questions - choose the correct word and its form (meilleur or meilleures, par example). The answers are directly below to check.

FOR TOMORROW'S CLASS, please regardez cet émission de Petit Nicolas as a way to make yourself aware of how they speak and to be comfortable for tomorrow's listening task - for marks!!!

Le Petit Nicolas - Je suis malade (it is also a chapitre dans ton roman!!)

FSF 1P - Students watched their first movie trailer en français! We had listening activities and watched Le Temple du soleil. Be prepared to review a movie or concert in your future!

FSF 1D - Today we completed our listening activity in the library. The expectations are described in a previous blog and say what the students are now capable of doing. It was a successful activity - most students could have done the activity without the word bank! Bravo!

Excellent work!!

FSF 1P - Students completed a reading activity today. They read clues and provided to which building they would go. We completed watching Tintin and familiarized ourselves with the characters in order to be successful with our listening activity tomorrow. Do you know which country provided us with such a fameux cartoon?! We will find out tomorrow!!

FSF 1D - Today students completed a reading activity in order to be successful for their listening task tomorrow in the lab. They will be identifying places in the city based on the needs / activities they hear being completed there. We also did a reading activity to demonstrate an understanding of our dialogue tomorrow that we will be saying to Mme for a speaking mark out of  15. There were challenges for students who are ready to move ahead and we will continue tomorrow in the lab!

FEF 1D - Aujourd'hui we introduced and talked about what our final project may be to demonstrate our comprehension of le Petit Nicolas and the other concepts we have been practicing. We read chapter 4 aloud and students have comprehension activities for ch.3 and ch. 4 to complete. There will be a journal entry given tomorrow that will be due Monday. Please complete the activities from the last blog post yesterday if you haven't already, and be sure to watch this ; after watching this clip, click on continue (at top of screen) for activity

le 12 avril

Quelle journée aujourd'hui!!!

FSF 1P -  Vous avez bien parlé aujourd'hui. Today, using an exemplar to see how it sounds and looks, we identified reasons as to why nous préferons des édifices. Students are doing a great job speaking and can challenge themselves by speaking about different buildings.  We know many ways in which we can compare places (prix, la service, la qualité). Tomorrow we are starting to give directions! You will have homework on the blog tomorrow!

FSF 1D -  Today, we used whole body learning to learn the "prepositions; anywhere un chat peut aller --- sort of!"   We know SUR, SOUS, DANS, DEVANT, DERRIERE, and many more. Students could identify buildings on map in conjunction with other buildings en français. Tomorrow we will start giving directions and reading profiles of people who need to go to a certain building.
COMING UP : Please remember that you have a speaking dialogue on Thursday (feedback was given on a pink or orange sheet in preparation, as well as a reading task. Be sure to use time wisely to prepare!!  We also checked our work on y and made sentences even better that we noticed weren't 100% perfect, completed a VRAI/FAUX activity on our dialogue and read it aloud.
Please remember that phones and food are to stay in backpacks or lockers!!!

Try this y game - tu veux être millionaire?!
Here is a short video with some bonne prononciation to help with Friday's dialogue activity

Today we listened to a song that based it's lyrics on the fact they had to mourrir demain. We learned how to describe what we would do. Students listened to, organized and analysed the lyrics and discerned the difference of was doing, will do and would do in many different actions!!! They really put together their previous knowledge learned in this class to new ideas so well. We also made a "bucket list" of what we would do if we were in that situation (or before we turned 40 if we wanted to describe things differently). Excellent work today!

Please be sure to watch the videos from yesterday if you were away today!!

We created and executed a small survey about our preferred buildings. We are starting to compare buildings now. Students can identify places on a map with descriptions of its physical place, they can ask a preference about a place! We started to watch an episode of Tintin and will have an activity about Tintin later this week.

FSF 1D - We had a scavenger hunt where students read clues en français and had to find which building it was describing, write it in French and then write the letter they found on the image found in the caf. Students also read aloud and were provided with oral and written feedback. There will be a speaking task on Thursday this week!! Students had an exercise to complete on Y (double sided) and we had a card game where students listened to clues (like those heard in class) provided by other players, guessed the place they were referring to, and took the card if they were correct. We are trying to speak as much French as possible!

FEF 1D - OVERDUE WORK NOTICE - be sure to hand it in!!!!!

FSF 1P  - Great day! We created a belle ville in our class and we could describe where we were (if we were buildings) in the city in conjuction with other buildings without written prompts! Students are building confidence and stronger sentence structure each day. We also learned how to say please in other languages today. Students read prompts to identify which buildings they were in our activity and next week, you will compare places!

FSF 1D - We had a lab day and a quick 'unpopped' quiz that students knew about at the end of class. We listened and watched some videos of people going places and getting directions and all of our details are on elearning.  Be prepared for lots of speaking next week!

FSF 1P -  Today we had a lab day! We completed a listening activity for marks, we listened to dialogues of people speaking and we learned some new direction words. Good work, everyone!

FSF 1D -   We worked in the caferteria today where we learned and applied our knowledge of ALLER, the preposition A and its other forms, and a new one letter word : Y. Students completed a worksheet to practice ALLER and read through a dialogue about a potential rendez-vous with friends. There will be a 'pop' quiz tomorrow (coup d'oeil, coup d'oeil).

FSF 1P - Today, we explored Paris and Montreal by looking at maps, and we learned prepositions to use that we can now listen to and find out where we are, or what building we are at.   We had a fun time !!!

FSF 1D - We corrected some work today on ALLER, and completed a word bank for buildings. We also thought critically about the French language to know why there are different forms of TO THE. We listened to a paragraph and did a quick listening comprehension activity as well.

Can you choose the correct form of A? Try these 5 questions!

Try this Battleship game to practice ALLER

Please take a look at previous posts for further reinforcement if you feel it is necessary.

FEF 1D - Today we completed a listening activity in preparation for our next speaking task. Students wrote scripts today and will execute a dialogue to describe where they are going in their city and why. Excellent listening comprehension today!

FSF 1D - Students started their new unit on the city. Most of us can listen to actions and identify buildings in which those activities happen well already. We are developing a word bank, and applying what we already know how to do in order to describe one building we are creating for an activity later this week. Students should know the verb aller (review from last post is below with games to play) and we will be practicing the present tense.

Does this look familiar!?

FEF 1D - Fantastique aujourd'hui!

Click here to choose the correct futur responses about what WILL HAPPEN

Try this for reinforcement - there is a self correcting exercise at the bottom (en bas!)

JOYEUX JOUR DU POISSON D'AVRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVERYONE HAS A TEST FIRST THING MONDAY.... April fools!    =)

FSF 1P - Today we combined everything we have been practicing this week to talk about why we go to the places we go. Students can identify buildings based on clues they have heard, they can explain why they go to those buildings and they can talk about why other people go to those places. Their pronunciation and sentence building is awesome!!!  Please be sure to do Ex. 2 and 3 if you're up for the challenge on your ALLER sheet, and be ready to film yourselves speaking with your maps on Monday!!!

FSF 1D - We started our new unit today. Students imagined what refugees would have to experience, know, understand, do and learn about when arriving in Canada. We will continue talking about our town, it's conveniences (and inconveniences) and much more in the weeks to follow.
Students will be required to visit this site for reinforcement activities.
